This project involves a Grade II listed, Victorian, mid-terrace house located in a Conservation area in Hackney.

The existing house was constructed in the early 1800s and was in need of some refurbishment. The layout of the house was largely as built, although a poor quality rear extension housing a bedroom and bathroom was in need of replacement and the connection between the living space and the large rear garden was lacking.

The project involved refurbishing the lower ground floor of the house to provide a larger kitchen / dining space which connected better with the rear garden via a series of terraces. The existing rear extension is to be demolished and replaced with a larger and better constructed element which also provided direct access to the rear garden.

The choice of material for the project was important and formed part of the discussions with the Local Conservation Officer.
