We were asked to help with the refurbishment of a Grade II Listed Georgian house located in Stoke Newington.

The property is located opposite the entrance to Abney Park and forms part of a wider terrace. The house has suffered from neglect by previous owners and is in need of a full refurbishment to bring it back to it’s former glory.

The project involves remodelling the basement level of the house to become a self-contained flat for visiting family members which can also be utilised as an entertainment space. The existing mansard roof extension will also be extensively refurbished to provide a master bedroom suite. Original features such as plaster mouldings and cast iron railings will be restored. Internally, years of neglect will be reversed to return the property to it’s former glory.

Currently the kitchen is located in the basement and this will be moved to the ground floor to allow the family space to over-look the Street to the front and the garden to the rear.

The opportunity to upgrade the historic fabric to improve energy efficiency is an important part of the work. All the existing windows will either be refurbished or replaced along with slimline secondary glazing installed to the inside. Insulating lime plaster will be applied to the external walls and the mansard roof insulation will be increased. The central heating system will be replaced with a heat pump powered system.
