As with all hospitals, Chelsea & Westminster is in a constant state of renewal, regeneration and remodelling in order to keep up with the demands of the a modern NHS hospital.

Having been built in the early 1990's, the hospital is orientated around a central 'street' with a series of large atria to each side allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the wards and departments.

Due to it's busy nature, this central street has not been renewed since opening. In line with the ongoing way-finding strategy being developed by the hospital, North Architects were asked to look at the design for the lift lobbies and central walkways providing the main circulation to the hospital.

The design was based on an abstraction of key views from the surrounding area of the hospital. The suble variations in pattern and colour provides a cohesive design for the flooring while also creating individual area within each floor.
